* A mysterious ad on the IE Blog leads to a countdown timer
* The Countdown page asks for keys.
** Several Keys have been found by using any of five cipher keys, either posted online or sent to bloggers.
** Several keys were solved by using the contents of a Puzzle Box Package, mailed to various people. The contents include a video.
** These keys have frequently been accompanied by extravagant gifts (laptops, media center computers, etc.) from Loki, the "Enigma Director", and all come from Microsoft's headquarters in Redmond, WA.
* The countdown expires Jan 8th 2007 at 6:30PM PST. A decompile of the Flash app on the main page reveals the location as the fountains in front of the Bellagio. This time and location coincides with the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. It is expected that this is when the game will officially start.
* Several new countdowns are behind a particular key, listing various cities and times of additional live events.
* A new video from lokivanishes is discovered on YouTube, giving a new key.
* The rules page lists a secret Meta Puzzle with an instant-win prize for the first to solve it. The prize is their name inscribed on each of a new AMD processor model to be released soon. Several clues in the puzzles, events, and in the original video could relate to the Meta Puzzle.
* Another clue from Loki surfaces at the bell desk of The Orleans hotel in Vegas, pointing to the location the event at the Bellagio Fountains.
* All of the events now have GPS coordinates. They are noted here on the Countdowns page.
* Jan 8th 2007: The Las Vegas Event has occurred, giving us a Video and Puzzle Box 1 has been unlocked. After all the puzzles are solved, Loki gives us a video: loki_time . At the end of the video a url is flashed on the screen pointing to a side contest to get your name printed on AMD Athlon 64 FX processors. Thus begins the Meta Puzzle.
* Jan 13th. 2007: The first of the two multi-city events occurred today, leaving us with Puzzle Box 2, clues written in the sky [http://www.vanishingpointgame.com/skyType.htm ], and a new video (magicweb) after solving them all. The White Box Phenomenon has been connected to the Meta Puzzle through the Collection Plate directory.
*Solving all of the puzzles gives yet another video. At its end, the words "/more_answers" flashes. Going to http://www.vanishingpointgame.com/more_answers, one finds a tracker of the puzzles completed.
*Jan 27th 2007: A special VIP party is being held for the last clue. To go you must be 18 or older and be able to get to the Seattle, WA event. The invitation was presented on the website. It gave instructions to RSVP via e-mail to vanish@vanishingpointgame.com with "yes" in the body. A reply email was received.
*Jan 27th 2007: Identity of Loki: Finally evidence on who loki really is. Real name is Minae Noji. She is an actress at General Hospital. I guess this means everything she told us has a meaning. Here is a link to her myspace profile. http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendID=54234975
*Jan 27th 2007: The fourth box opens and all puzzles are now available to be solved and all white boxes to be identified.
*After clicking on all the white boxes and returning to the 'collectionplate' page, you are faced with a scrambled image, which when reassembled gives the coat of arms of the Odessa Oblast.
*After solving all the puzzles and returning to the 'more answers' page, you are faced with a word search puzzle. When all the words are found, only 6B617261 is left. Screenshots , , ,
*At the end of the video for solving puzzle box four the link '/roamingroaming' is given. The page is a clue to some place if you follow the distances from an unknown source. The word "TANLI" is at the bottom of the page, which I assume is "LATIN". Maybe the starting place is ROME?
*The video for solving puzzle box four asks you to visit '/lokiv'. This provides a video for the final part of the meta puzzle. Four Lokis sit in four directors' chairs and ask you to find their name(s). See lokiv for further information.
* Jan 29th 2007: New video appeared on Soapbox. It is a release video for Windows Vista that also shows Loki's office at Microsoft headquarters. http://www.geocities.com/xtwilightx89
*The final answer to the Meta Puzzle is "Lorelei, Odessa, Kara, Ivy" ...if you played the game you received a message from LOKI about the game. The solution to the Meta puzzle can be found here.

*The Grand Prize drawing was Jan 31st, and the winner will be contacted February 1st! On February 1st, the 1st-4th prizes will be drawn, and winners will be contacted in the following days...
The final part of the meta puzzle is to discover the four names of Loki. The start of this final stage is given in the video awarded for completing the puzzles in Puzzle Box 4, and is the directory '/lokiv'.

It seems that the trail for each name starts with the hidden directory given at the end of the video each week that is awarded when all the puzzles have been solved.

The first week gave '/on_the_run', where Loki asked to be contacted (details on the Meta Puzzle page, which eventually led to the message about the 'murmuring rock project'. This has led solvers to believe that Loki's first name, or the name of the first Loki in the final video, is Lorelei or Loreley.

The second week gave '/collectionplate', where the number of white boxes that had been identified was recorded. Once all 36 of these had been found (nine per week) (details on the Collection Plate page, the page was replaced by a scrambled image. When reassembled, this image has been found to be the coat of arms of the Odessa Oblast (county). This has led solvers to believe that Loki's second name, or the name of the second Loki in the final video, is Odessa.

The third week gave '/more_answers', where the number of puzzles that had been solved was recorded. Once all 48 of these had been solved, the page was replaced by a word search of the solutions to all the puzzles (with an additional tetris-like drop down feature). When all the words are eliminated, one is left with the string '6B617261', which is the ASCII for 'kara'. This has led solvers to believe that Loki's third name, or the name of the third Loki in the final video, is Kara.

The fourth week gave '/roamingroaming', where an image of Loki with her glasses lowered was accompanied by a list of eight distances starting with '1. Mystery Spot CA', and the string 'TANLI'. The distances must be paired with the directions Loki gives in each video (in order of accessibility) when she lowers her glasses (where up = north, down = south, right = east and left = west) - the full sequence being right (hear the challenge video), up (box 1 real world clues video), right (box 1 complete video), down (box 2 complete video), left (box 3 complete video), down (box 4 real world clues video), left (box 4 complete video), down ('lokiv' directory video). Starting at the Mystery Spot near Santa Cruz in California and following the directions takes you to Atardecer en Donana, Spain; Bridgetown, Ireland; Warsaw, Poland; Tarnow, Poland; Dietzenbach, Germany; Bonnanaro, Italy; Blandinsville, Illinois; and finally Hardee, Mississippi. The letters TANLI are an anagram of Latin, suggesting making an anagram and translating from Latin (or vice versa). Hardee is an anagram of 'hedera', which is Latin for Ivy. This has led solvers to believe that Loki's fourth name, or the name of the fourth Loki in the final video, is Ivy.

Note that the game makers first added 'CA' after 'Mystery Spot' and the text 'Even the smallest places have names' to the page after about 24 hours, and then added a link to a map of the area around Hardee with an X on Hardee (but no other text) after another 12 hours or so.

The solution therefore appears to be 'Lorelei Odessa Kara Ivy'.

NOTE: This is the proper solution, however the prize is already rewarded. If you do not type it in exactly as above, you get a message:

To be fair, this contest is over and I've already awarded the prize. But please pay closer attention, try again, and help me reach my own Vanishing Point.

-L.O.K.I.

If you type in the correct solution you get:

You are not the first to guess our identity, but because you solved our puzzle, we want to tell you our secret.

There is no such person as Loki-or rather, she is four sisters who decided to be one extraordinary person.

Each of us has a unique talent:

Lorelei is our tinkerer. Clocks and counting, space and time: she is our genius.

Odessa is our performer, our actress and magician, the girl we send to dazzle and charm. Odessa goes to meetings: Loki gets promoted. It's very convenient.

Kara is our reader. With a love of history and a photographic memory, she gives us access to any fact figure, or event at a moment's notice.

Ivy is our spy. She's the girl you don't notice, the face you don't remember, and vanishing is what she does best. Ivy has gotten us out of more than one impossible situation.

Together, we have presented L.O.K.I. to the world. Our mask and super-hero, LOKI has allowed us each to be bigger than ourselves.

When we heard Microsoft and AMD were looking to give extraordinary prizes to exceptional people, we knew LOKI could never find a more perfect job. This, Odessa said, would be a trick we could never top. O, how we wanted this job! (And what clever, unfair, underhanded things we did to the other applicants to make sure we got it! But that's another story.) And once we got the job, we all agreed that Loki's greatest triumph would be her last.

We created the Vanishing Point to reward the smartest minds (and communities) on the planet - and still we underestimated you. We used our smarts and our guile, not to mention money and connections and countless hours of time-and still you humbled us. We knew the terrain and barely gave you a map-and that didn't stop you. We built puzzles that should have taken you days and you solved them in hours.

"Loki" is a genius: but you were far more brilliant. You were thought made fire. You were lightning.

Thank you for your work, your talent, and your dedication. It has been a privilege to witness: an honor and a delight.

For each of us to live, Loki had to die. Thank you, thank you beyond words for taking her to the Vanishing Point.

Lorelei
Odessa
Kara
Ivy
--That makes me mad though because I entered an alternate spelling for the first name days ago and I didn't see that. I found many resources with that alternate spelling. But anyway, it was fun :)

ANSWER: Murder at the Vicarage
</spoiler>

<spoiler>
Not the answer yet, but I thought I'd cross post some of the more important information from the Neowin forums:

The answer seems to be related to Agatha Christie as all the pictures match a form of murder in her books:

*Ukulele String 1/8 The Bird with the Broken Wing' (short story in The Mysterious Mr. Quin)
*Marble Clock 1/11/47 "And Then there Were None";
*Apple Bobbing Tub 7/10/17 "Halloween Party"
*Dagger 6/4/16 "Murder on the Orient Express"
*Raincoat Belt 14/13/62 "Three Blind Mice"
*Crowbar 5/39/57 "Witness for the Prosecution"
*Tennis Racquet 3/2/11/7 ("Towards Zero"); "Murder at the Vicarage"
*Golf Club 1/4/6 ("The Murder on the Links")
*Chocolate 9/14/2 "The Chocolate Box"
*Nylon Stocking 1/6/40 "A Pocket Full of Rye"
*Fire 32/28 "The Mysterious Affair at Styles"

Also, using the colors of the fireworks, you can decifer 13124 into 'right' therefore, the clue is "A DEATH CHASE, AM I RIGHT?"

Here's me hoping this spurs someone to think of the answer.

It's worth noting that the clue anagrams to "DAME AGATHA CHRISTIE" with an "H" leftover.
The clue for solving the puzzle begins at 6:17 in the video.

The following sequence is displayed in the fireworks:
5 stars
4 smilies
8 circles
4 cubes
Each shape has a musical note in the puzzle
cube, planet, butterfly - E
circle, smiley - D
star - C
heart - G
bug - F
Using the pattern from the fireworks to play the notes from the puzzle gives the song Begin the Beguine.
Answer is begin the beguine

<spoiler>
From the audio, you hear that the plane was 858 miles from station 29 at 1330. Draw a circle out to 858 miles.

At 3:30 in the video, the fireworks spell out the letters M X V I I. Using these as a Roman number gives 1017.

Draw a circle 1017 miles out from station 102.

The audio said that the plane was twice as far from station 49 as station 102. 1017*2=2034. Draw a circle 2034 miles out from station 102.

The circles all overlap at the point GJ1.

</spoiler>

<spoiler>
Just look at the place that the end of the pencil is pointing to on the very first screen. Coincidence? The answer is GJ1.
</spoiler>

<spoiler>
It's possible to solve this one without even looking at the site video.

Click on the nautical map so that it fills the screen. The goal is to figure out where the lost ship is located, and you need to do it by triangulation. The three stations (shown with the flashing red circles around them) can help you find the missing ship.

Click on the radio mouthpiece in the lower left to hear the transmission. People from the three stations should start talking back and forth.

You should get two useful pieces of information:

1) Station 29 (on the top side) tells you that the lost ship was 858 nautical miles away at 3:30. So click on station 29 and drag the circle until the radius shows 858 nautical miles exactly. This means that the lost ship is somewhere on that circle, which narrows down the possibilities quickly.

Now it's time to use the other bit of information:

2) Station 102 reports their distance from the ship at 3:30, but it is drowned out by static. However, station 47 says that they were twice as far from the ship as station 102. This is enough to pinoint the location, because only one point on the circle can satisfy that condition. How do you figure out where it is?

Start by drawing a circle around station 102, and make it touch the circle around station 29. Note the distance. Then draw a circle around station 47 until it touches one of the two points where the other two circles intersect. If the radius of the circle around station 47 is more than twice that of the radius of the circle around 102, then your circle around 102 is too small. Start over and make your circle around 102 bigger. If the radius of the circle around station 47 is less then twice that around 102, then your circle around 102 is too big. Make it smaller and try again. When the distance from 47 is exactly twice that of 102, then you've got your answer.

The distances need not be exactly perfect, only close enough to identify the correct grid cell where they meet.

Through trial and error, you will find that the correct distance from station 102 is about 1010 nautical miles, and all three circles intersect at grid location GJ1.

The answer to the puzzle is "GJ1".

* Scattered reports are arriving that the Microsoft CES Keynote includes more details about prizes.
* Registration available and rules and prizes posted. There's also a FAQ with more hints.
*Jan 20th. 2007: The second of the two multi-city events occurs today, leaving us with Puzzle Box 3 and clues projected on buildings.
*Solving all of the puzzles gives yet another video. At it's end, the words "/more_answers" flashes.
The boxes on the paper represent the Great Pyramids with the point in the top left corner being the "vanishing point". By overlaying a map of the pyramids such as found, here, you get the following:

Look at the inside and the outside arc. They cross through the following letters:
TIFNIEOMSTRN
Contributed by InsaneProdigy:
The bird on the far right indicates the hieroglyphs are to be read from right to left.
Placing the letters that each yo-yo trick contributes into the same order as they appear in the picture (i.e. the F from Flag has an arc through it. Therefore, F goes in the top right corner) gives:
T S MI I F
N OT R N E
Moving the blank space to the top row gives:
T S R I F
N OT MI N E
This clearly gives FIRST on the top line and MENTION can be read on the bottom line (possible order error in puzzle or solving).

The first hit of the search for FIRST MENTION yo-yo says:(search)
